Why is The former search slower than google?? 🤔
Why Google Search faster:👇
The web generally does not store the results anywhere, it just indexes the content on other sites and stores address pointing towards these pages.
When you search for something on Google there will be some latency associated with real time data, but we are ok with it.
There is cached data available for more generic questions.
Gmail Search is slow: 👇
For users, Gmail search should be able to give them details of the latest mail which was sent just 15 sec ago, So the search extracts data real time stored in servers.
Gmail search matches terms literally and shows matching emails in chronological order.
It doesn't do ranking and non-literal matches like web search does.
Also, the Gmail team has to work with a lot of restrictions because of privacy.
They are not allowed to look at the user's email ever. That would make it hard to do ranking.
